Thanks to the NUTRAMIST's ultra-fine vapor which results in significantly enhanced tissue penetration, most nutrients and foliar applications can be effective at up to 50% less than label recommendations which saves money and protects crops from the harmful effects of over-fertilization and tissue treatment.

Sizing the Nutramist to Your Application:

Please note: Due to the incredible range of application types, sizes, crop requirements and environmental factors, please use this information as a general rule of thumb only. Contact your dealer for more specific information or check our FAQ page for actual grower reports.

When creating your own NUTRAMIST garden or retrofitting you existing garden, there are several important considerations.

1. Solution consumption rate - how much does your garden consume during each daylight period of growth? Refer to the technical specifications page to determine the right fit for your application.

2. Root chamber size - Each NUTRAMIST has a six-speed flow control which allows the grower to match output so that the fog is evenly distributed throughout the root chamber of your system. Small plants with small roots consume little solution and offer no physical obstruction to the flow of fog. In such instances the lowest fan settings can be used. As plants mature and develop denser roots, they consume more solution and if placed very close together, could interfere with even fog distribution. This is more of a challenge when trying to run a NUTRAMIST in long chambers with little internal volume such as General Hydroponics AeroFlos ® and PVC pipe gardens with diameters less than 6 inches. Systems with deep root chambers, more than 10", will require a higher fan setting so that the fog doesn't settle down inside. The optimal root chamber depth is from 2 to 6 inches below the bottom of the root ball (or basket).

3. Choice of nutrients/supplements - Feed your NUTRAMIST with products which are 100% soluble in water and leave no detectable residue. Use only products which do not contain live microbial cultures as the NUTRAMIST sterilizes any solution it comes in contact with which will render these products useless. This same sterilizing action of the NUTRAMIST is what contributes to its ability to keep your root zone free from pathogens normally introduced through conventional recirculating hydroponic and aeroponic systems.

4. Choice of growing mediums - While the NUTRAMIST will penetrate all plant tissue on contact, it will not penetrate dense mediums such as rockwool or fine grained soiless mixes. It is ok to start your plants in these media types as long as the roots have completely penetrated through the media and have unrestricted access to the fog. For optimal performance, the fit between your plant supports (ie: baskets, cups, plugs, etc) should allow a small amount of the fog to escape past them. This insures that the roots below are receiving the fog and prevents your system from blocking the influx of fog due to a build up of static pressure within. It is important however that the lid of your system is well fitted to the root chamber.
